Wilton Decorating Icing Expiration Date: Everything You Need to Know About This Product

I called Wilton CS today. They said that it expires two years after it is made (regardless of when the tube is opened). So I gave her a number off of the tube and she could tell me the date it was created (happened to be April of this year). So my tube will expire in April 2012. I won't keep it 'til then of course, but it's nice to know I'm no where near the expiration date. LOL. Just FYI in case any of you ever need to know...

I really appreciate you posting this. I have a few tubes and I can never find an expiration date. I'm kind of surprised they're not legally required to put the expiration date on the tube but to each his own. I think I'll go with a couple of months after opening then in the trash they go. You never know how long they sit on the shelf at michael's But its good to know they last that long...or is it....what exactly is in there that sits fine for 2 yrs...

Wilton Decorating Icing Expiration Date

Yes - that'll be me too. I'll keep them a few months then toss. They're so cheap I don't mind. The lady said that it won't make you ill or anything if it's consumed after the expiration date but it won't taste as fresh.I think it must basically be oil/shortening with sugar and coloring and tons of preservatives LOL.

Just got off the phone with Wilton about their decorating icing tubes expiration dates. So I found out that the code at the top on the back is the date. The first two number is the year it was made and the last numbers are the day of the year and they expire 2 years after the made date open or not. Example: 11027, this was made in 2011 on Jan 27 so it would expire on Jan 27, 2013. Hope this was helpful :)

Some of you may have already figured this out. But I was going to through some Wilton products to determine if it was time to discard and replace them. After looking at some of the items, I could not find any expiration dates. I only found codes stamped on the products. I called Wilton's customer service to find out what the codes mean. Below is the explanation of how to decode the Wilton numbers to figure out what their expiration is. But I still don't understand why companies have to use codes instead of just putting the date. Here is the email I received from Wilton. I hope it helps anyone like me who didn't know how to find their expiration dates:

If you are unsure if your Wilton icing is expired, there are a few ways to tell. First, you can look for the expiration date on the packaging, as many Wilton icing tubs come with a label with an expiration date.if(typeof ez_ad_units!='undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[728,90],'thedonutwhole_com-box-3','ezslot_4',605,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-thedonutwhole_com-box-3-0');If there is no expiration date on the package you may be able to determine whether or not the icing is expired by doing a smell test and looking for any visible signs of mold or discoloration. If the icing is expired, it will have a sour smell and the colors may have separated or changed colors.Additionally, certain Wilton icings have a preservative, which helps it to last longer, so if you feel the icing has been sitting out for too long you can make a test batch and see how easily it piped.Expired icing may be lumpy and become difficult to pipe. If your icing meets any of these criteria, it is likely expired and should be discarded.Table of Contents

How long does frosting last? The shelf life of frosting, or icing, depends on the best before date and how the frosting or icing is stored. Frosting (icing) can be thick or thin, cooked (like boiled icing) or uncooked (like butter cream frosting), but it's always sweet. That's because, no matter what other ingredients or flavorings are used, it starts with sugar as the base.

But remember that frosting and icing, like a lot of other baking products, usually has a best before date and not a use by date. Because of this distinction, you may safely use frosting or icing for your baking needs after the best before date has lapsed, but please enjoy your all your food by the eat by date.

When frosting (icing) turns bad there is a very slight change in the color (darker), texture (thicker) and aroma (not pleasant anymore) of the product - but a taste will tell you for sure (bad)! Wilton, who make the cans of "Ready to Decorate Icing" tells me that their cans never actually expire, but for best quality should be used within 24 months of the code printed on the bottom of the can. It's decoded as follows. Let's use the code G082120 - the G tells us that the can was made in July (ie. A=Jan, B=Feb,etc), the 08 tells us that the year was 2008, the next 3 digits (212) tell us the date on the Julian calendar. So, the can with code G082120 was produced on July 31st, 2008 and retains full flavor until July 31st, 2010 but can be used beyond that with diminished quality. To find a proper substitute for frosting visit our page in the substitution section.

The best way to store a frosting or icing is in its original unopened container in the pantry. Once opened, frosting and icing should always be stored in the refrigerator, with the exception of the squeezable decorating tubes and press decorating cans of decorative icing which are best in the pantry or they become too hard to flow out of the tube or can.

How long does frosting last? Shelf life, expiration date, best-by date and storage information for frosting and cake icing. Frosting lasts. Wilton, who make the. Oct 24, 2011 - And black sprinkles come in super handy when making cake pops. Found wilton edible pen in a baking supply store but without expiry dates.

How long do sprinkles last? Sprinkles last for 3-5 years beyond the "best by" date stamped on the container, this is if they have been handled properly. The shelf life of sprinkles depends on the production date or the best before date and how the sprinkles are stored. Sprinkles are basically just sugar. They are tiny candy that are mainly used for decoration when they are sprinkled over the top of baked goods. They provide a variance in texture and color to the icing.

In addition to the tasty supplies, the kit comes with a few pieces to help you display your 2-pound creation once it's finished: a presentation board illustrated with scenes from the video game, a plastic decorating tip set for icing, a cardboard base, and a sheet with instructions if you need some help getting started.

Wilton also has a few decorating tips from years in the business of making gingerbread houses. It recommends round candy wafers or square gum pieces for roof shingles and cutting gum drops or gummy candies to make stained glass windows for your gingerbread palace (kept in place with royal icing, of course).
